Exercises
You can do these exercises by yourself or in groups of two.
-
If you haven't already received it,
get your login name and password from the teacher.
-
Use Mimer Administrator
to tell Mimer that there is a remote database called
dbk,
which runs on a server called basen.oru.se.
(There are some more details in
Getting started with Mimer.)
-
Connect to the Mimer database with the program Batch SQL (also called BSQL).
(There are some more details in
Getting started with Mimer.)
-
Login using your login name and password.
-
Try out some of the SQL commands from chapter 1 in the book.
They can also be found in the chapter
Introduktion till databaser och databashanterare
in the web course.
Does Mimer understand all the commands?
Do you get any errors? Why?
A tip: You can use the SQL command insert to insert new rows in a table:
insert into kund values (7, 'Hjalmar', 'Vägen 7');
-
Go to the Mimer web site,
www.mimer.com.
-
Find the right version of Mimer to download and install on your home computer!
(Remember it, so you can actually do this later,
if you have access to a computer at home.)
-
Find the manual at the web page,
and use the index to look up the word databank.
What is a databank in Mimer?
-
Are there any other Mimer tools installed on the computer?
Which?
What can you do with them?
